The Indoor Hockey Events (Men and Women) to be contested on 1 to 7 May 2023 at Dinosaur Park Hall, Chroy Changvar, Cambodia.
After completing the Friendly Match Tour Series in Perth Australia last April 9 to 19 and having completed the last training session yesterday, before leaving for Cambodia, tomorrow (April 29 – Saturday), the 12 players of the National Men’s and Women’s Indoor Hockey Team are now ready to bring the torch of Malaysia’s struggle at the bi-annual games.
According to the match schedule that has been released, the National Women’s Indoor Hockey Squad will open the match against Singapore on Monday (May 1) at 3:15 pm (Malaysian time) while the Men’s Team will meet the host, Cambodia, at 7:00 pm ( Malaysian time) on the same day.
The Head Coach of the National Men’s Indoor Hockey Squad, Mohd Hanip Che Halim explained with a short training session, the players who have been selected are those who understand the concept of indoor hockey quickly and have the skills to make decisions quickly.
“The players who have been selected are also individuals who have high indoor hockey skills because as everyone knows, the indoor hockey game focuses more on speed and speed, including decision making.
“For the final preparations before we leave, the players have undergone a training session to correct and improve all the weaknesses that we have identified during the Australian Tour Series, recently.
“With a few days left, each player and the team as a whole have focused on sharpening their set-play and individual skills.
“I hope that each player can maintain the momentum of the game well in the actual action later, besides continuing to maintain the fighting spirit and high team spirit in each of them, so that the mission to maintain the gold medal won in the last edition, can be realized,” he explained.
While the Women’s Head Coach, Mohd Badrul Hisham Osman also shared, the selection of 12 players to carry out an important mission in Cambodia is based on the fitness level of the players themselves, their maturity in the game as well as the spirit of cooperation as a team.
“The players who have been selected are those who can accept and understand every tactic that our coaching staff applies for the team and they are also able to follow every plan that has been prepared.
“The team’s preparation has now reached 100% and the period of time we had after returning to training from the recent Hari Raya Aidilfitri holidays, we have used to improve every weakness that was seen during the last Australian Friendship Tour Series.
“We have refined every advantage and strength of the team as best as possible to be brought to the actual tournament later.
“We as a team also hope to return to Malaysia with a gold medal and each of us is aware of that mission. We also request all hockey fans in Malaysia to pray for the success of the Hockey Team in the National Assembly so that the dream of winning a gold medal can be realized,” he said.
