The much-awaited Commonwealth Games are back! The beautiful scenic paradise of Gold Coast is set to hold the prestigious event, and as always, field hockey is a prime sport which will showcase talent from some of the best teams from the globe.

In the Men’s category, World number 1 and five-out-of-five time champions Australia are the main contenders for gold as they set to secure their sixth medal on home soil. They will be accompanied by New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, and Scotland in Pool A. India, the finalist at the last two editions of the event as well as the Asian Champions, are the favorites to top Pool B. Malaysia, who displayed phenomenal performances in the 27th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup earlier this month, will surely be a force to reckon with. They will be accompanied by England, Pakistan, and Wales in Pool B.

Australia has also dominated the women’s category of the event, winning four gold medals, including top podium position in the last edition of the games. They will host New Zealand, Scotland, Canada, and Ghana in Pool B. 2002 champions, India will face the finalists of 2002 (and 2014), England, South Africa, Malaysia, and Wales in Pool B.

The Hockey event will be held between the 5th and the 14th of April. Women’s teams will clash first with thrilling matches to look forward to, which include; India v Wales, Scotland v New Zealand, England v South Africa, and Australia v Canada. In the men’s category, Pakistan will face Wales, followed by a match between South Africa and Scotland. Top two team from each pool of each category will qualify for the Semi-finals which will be held on the 12th of April for Women and 13th of April for Men. The final for both categories will be Saturday, 14th of April.
