Thanks to a massive effort by the Asian Hockey Federation, it has been decided after a review that 4 top teams from Men’s Asia Cup including host and 4 top teams from Women’s Asia Cup will qualify directly for the upcoming FIH Women’s and Men’s World Cups, to be played in 2022 and 2023 respectively. This is a big achievement for the Asian Hockey Federation, against the backdrop of the pandemic due to which the World Cup Qualifiers will not take place. Teams will qualify based on their performance at the Asia Cups.
This is a huge success for the Asian Hockey Federation as now slots in the World Cup have been secured for the top teams in Asia. Top tier Asian teams now have a clear target to aim at for the World Cup.
Both Asia Cups will now gain the status of Mini World Cups. This will mean that they will now have more value for second-tier nations to qualify for the World Cup.
