Learning the game of field hockey can be exciting and overwhelming at the same time. It takes years of practice and hard work to become a successful Hockey player. It is important to know where to start and which basic skills are needed for beginners.

First touch

Having a great first touch is an essential part of the game, it will allow you to move the ball in the direction where you can create space and get away from your opponent. It will give you time on the ball to identify your next move efficiently. You can work on your first touch by receiving the ball from different angles and pace.

Leading

This is an important skill to have to be able to get into an effective position on the field

by anticipating where the ball might go next. This will enhance your ability to lead better on the field and will also create space with your opponent.
