AHF Online Umpiring Workshop – Tournament and Match Preparation

Back

As a very busy month for the AHF umpiring education initiatives heads into its last few days, yesterday and today offered another great learning opportunity for Asian and African umpires with two workshops on the topic of “Tournament and Match Preparation”.

Delivered by experienced top-level FIH Umpires Manager Ged Curran, the workshop participants learnt about the different elements of preparing for an international tournament such as travel, physical and mental fitness, uniform and equipment, communication and rules & regulations.

The match preparation part of the workshop discussed elements of match preparation for umpires ranging from appointments, uniform and equipment, mental preparation, visualization and warmup to the pre-match meeting of the umpiring team for the match and communication with the technical officials on duty and team captains and coaches.

In an interactive rules quiz section, the candidates also had the opportunity to test themselves on their knowledge and understanding of the current Rules of Hockey, and displayed excellent levels of competence in this crucial skill for umpires. Overall, the workshop contributed nicely to the busy programme of workshops for umpires and Umpires Managers in Asia and Africa, designed to provide learning opportunities and keep official involved during the times of the pandemic.
