AirAsia Review of Day 1 – The Tournament Kicked Off With a Bang!

A new edition of the Indoor Cup began today in Chonburi, Thailand. Seven matches took place with 54 goals for both, Men’s and Women’s categories.

Men’s Indoor Hockey Asia Cup 2019: 

The host nation, Thailand, lead Pool A with a phenomenal goal difference of 10. They started with a crushing, 10-1, victory against Philippines, one of the debutants in the tournament. Also winning against a debutant team was Malaysia, who had their goal unbeaten by Bangladesh, finishing 6-0. Thailand holds 1st place in the pool.

In Pool B, Uzbekistan finished on-top with a comfortable 13-2 victory against Nepal. An amazing series of goals lead them to be number one in the pool. In a more even and challenging match, Singapore defeated Chinese Taipei 3-1. Scoring the last two goals during the second half, the Singapore secured the game in their favour.

Women’s Indoor Hockey Asia Cup 2019:

Uzbekistan, Iran and Malaysia got three victories in the first day of the tournament. Uzbekistan and Malaysia lead Pool A and Pool B respectively so far. Nepal, in their first tournament ever, lost their match at the opening day against Uzbekistan. The debutantes got smashed 0-9, earning the lowest place in the pool. Meanwhile, Iran easily defeated Philippines, another debutant, by 5-0. So far, Uzbekistan holds the 1st place in Pool A by goal difference.

In Pool B, only one match was played today in which Malaysia goaled Singapore 4-0. The third debutant of the tournament had many issues during the game and couldn’t pass by the Malaysian women.
