JAKARTA: Malaysia kept their perfect record in the men’s hockey competition by defeating Bangladesh 7-0 at GBK Stadium in Jakarta.

“This win takes us one step closer to the semi-finals,” said Malaysian coach Stephen van Huizen.“Although I am happy we won, we need to make use of the chances created. Against teams like Pakistan, chances will be hard to come by so we need to be more precise.”

Malaysia made good their fourth penalty corner as Razie Rahim’s powerful drag-flick sailed past Bangladesh keeper Syed Nippon in the 18th minute. The script was repeated in the 22nd minute as Razie scored the second, also via a penalty corner.

Malaysia’s third goal was netted by Mohamad Amirol Aideed in the 28th minute. Only 47 seconds into the 3rdquarter, Malaysia scored with Faisal Saari deflecting in a cross.

Joel Samuel van Huizen scored Malaysia’s fifth goal in the 38th minute. Malaysia was awarded a penalty stroke soon after, which Nabil Fiqri Mohd duly converted to make it 6-0. A minute before the final hooter, Firhan Ashaari scores the final goal and Malaysia registered a win against the Bangladesh side.
