Thailand won their first win in Pool B of the Women’s hockey event at the Asian Games after they defeated Indonesia 2-0 at the GBK Hockey Stadium.

JAKARTA:  Thailand won their first win in Pool B of the Women’s hockey event at the Asian Games after they defeated Indonesia 2-0 at the GBK Hockey Stadium. The Thais are playing their third match in the group. They had earlier lost 1-3 to Kazakhstan and 0-3 to South Korea.

The team was working hard in their training sessions and were seen putting in the time and effort to pinch a win at the 18thAsian Games. That could be seen on the turf as well as they orchestrated some sublime gameplay moves to give their opponents a tough time, resulting in an eventual 2-0 win.

The hosts also were looking to take motivation from the Indonesia Women’s team that won their match against Kazakhstan to jubilate their fans; A great number of whom came flocking to the stadium to support their team. However, some errors were very impressively converted by Thailand. Thailand wraps up their group matches when they play India on Monday. The match between the two countries was closely fought but #7 Sakunpithak from Thailand made the difference, as she scored two goals.

Tikhamporn Sakunpithak took her chances well to score both goals. She hit the target in the 25th and 41st minutes through a penalty corner and field attempt. The win kept the Thais in the playoff for the fifth to eighth placings. Indonesia has completed all their matches with one win but will have to wait for the competition of the group stage to know which classification match they play in.
