Former Sultan of Pahang, father of the King, passes away.

The entire Asian Hockey Family is deeply saddened and extends its condolences to the family of the former Sultan of Pahang, Paduka Ayahanda Sultan Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah ibni Al Marhum Sultan Abu Bakar Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mu’adzam Shah, who has passed away at the age of 88. The Asian Hockey Family is saddened to hear about the loss and we would like to express our sincerest condolences to the family.

The late Ahmad Shah served as the Sultan from 1974 till January 15th, 2019, when he abdicated due to ill-health.

The Late Sultan Ahmad Shah is the father of the current King, His Majesty Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah who is also a Royal Patron of the Asian Hockey Federation. Our heartfelt wishes go out to His Majesty and all his family. The thoughts and prayers of the Asian Hockey Family are with the family.

The late Sultan Ahmad Shah had also served as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong from April 1979 to April 1984. The Sultan was a sportsman at heart and loved football, polo, and golf. He served as the Football Association of Malaysia’s president from 1984 to 2014.

It is indeed a sad day today, and the world will be worse off without the former Sultan. The AHF sends its heartfelt condolences to his family and hopes that they are bestowed the strength to get through this difficult time.
