The Gulf Hockey Fiesta for Starcare cup, a regional event held in Muscat, Oman, with international participation took place last Friday, the 26th of February 2016.

The event, which was hosted by the United Thalissery Sports Club in conjunction with the Oman Hockey Association was set up with the aim to enhance the sport of hockey and tourism in the region, while providing a playing field for international players to showcase their skills.

12 club teams from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, UAE and Oman clashed in a compressed one day schedule, resulting in a final between Team Coorg of Oman and the Qatar wanders. Team Coorg went on to prevail as eventual winners of the tournament with a convincing 4-1 victory.

Guests of honor including PR Sreejesh, the Indian national team goalkeeper as well as Indramani Pandei, the Indian ambassador to Oman, attended the tournament along with other notable figures.

The tournament served as a symbol of the development of hockey in the region and the AHF fully condones the efforts of the Oman Hockey Federation & the United Thalissery Sports club.
