It has been an interesting week for Hockey India; with the start of the Hockey India League. Week One of the HIL 2016 comes to an end and what an eventful week it has been, where we got to see some spectacular goals in the matches that took place over the week.

The league started off with a match between the Uttar Pradesh (UP) Wizards and the Kalinga Lancers in the city of Bhubaneswar. The UP Wizards and the Kalinga Lancers played against each other in an enrapturing game, where the Kalinga Lancers tried their best to keep up with the UP Wizards. But alas, the tables turned in favor of the UP Wizards and they defeated the Kalinga Lancers in their own home ground.

The second match proved to be a quick win for the Jaypee Punjab Warriors as they got the advantage of scoring a goal early on in the game. They breezed through the remaining game, winning against the Ranchi Rays with a score of 2-0.

In the third match, the Jaypee Punjab Warriors failed to keep up a winning streak and lost the game to the Delhi Waveriders who swept the ball into the goal one by one, eventually winning the game.

On Day four of the HIL 2016, the Kalinga Lancers and Dambang Mumbai faced one another in the hockey ground of Bhubaneswar. The Kalinga Lancers, after their defeat in the first match, gave a scintillating performance and rebound to grab the winner’s spot in the fourth match.

The fifth match of the league saw the Ranchi Rays win their first match of HIL 2016. They were up against the UP Wizards. Ashley Jackson, captain for the Rays, entertained the audience through his field goal, ultimately paving the way to his team’s victory.

The Delhi Waveriders were on a lucky streak!!! The sixth match also proved to be in their favor as they scored two wins in a row! This time around it was against the UP Wizards. Their hockey wizardry failed to help them this once and the Delhi Waveriders managed to score three goals against one by the UP Wizards.

The last match of the week was between the Jaypee Punjab Warriors and Dabang Mumbai. Dabang Mumbai failed to impress the audience and the Warriors scored their second win, placing them on top of the pyramid.

All in all, it was a very happening week which saw goals from some of the best Hockey players around. The week saw the Jaypee Punjab Warriors coming out on top while Dabang Mumbai faltered at the bottom. However, there are still several matches left which will determine who eventually leads and gets to hold the HIL 2016 trophy.
