The Men’s Hockey Championship is held after every two years and is considered one of the most awaited events in the hockey world. The FIH (International Hockey Federation) finally announced the participating countries in addition to the country that will be hosting the prestigious event. The host country for this year’s Championship Trophy has been unveiled to be Great Britain!

The event will commence on the 10th of June and will continue till the 17th. It will be held in the city of London, at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre, which is located in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The Championship Trophy, which usually has eight teams competing for the title, will only be seeing six teams perform this year. These six teams are selected on the basis of their performance. This year, two Asian teams will also be participating in the tournament! South Korea qualified by default, as it was the winner of the Champions Challenge. Meanwhile, India was invited to participate by the FIH due to their impeccable performance.

Participating Teams
Australia
Belgium
India
Germany
Great Britain
South Korea

The tournament may prove to be in favor of the participating Asian countries and will hopefully pave the way for more countries from Asia to participate in the Championship Trophy in the upcoming years.

Playing for international tournaments, like the Hockey Champions Trophy, will elevate the Indian and Korean teams as they will be getting more exposure as they play with hockey giants like Australia and Germany. Moreover, the tournament will give the Indian team a taste of performing with the best hockey teams of the world and prepare them for the upcoming Olympics, which are to be held in August.

Getting selected by the FIH to play in the Championship Trophy is altogether another achievement in itself since the teams, which get to play in the tournament, are selected due to their performance. Thus, in a way the participating teams are being granted an accolade for their good performance by being asked to play in the tournament.

However, winning the Champions Trophy will be another success altogether. So let’s see how the teams perform in the field and which team secures the title of the Champions Trophy.
