Olympic Day Run Bangladesh 2016

Bangladesh Hockey Federation and Bangladesh Olympic Association proceeded a day-long program beginning to celebrate the Olympic Day in the capital.

In recent years, hockey has been a part of Olympic Day activities in some countries. It’s 2016 and today we see The Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) and Olympics Association (BOA) observe the Olympic traditions in a similar ritual. The Olympic Day Run was held in the capital and six other divisional headquarters on 3 June as part of the International Olympic Council’s global ambition to see as many people, in as many nations as possible, participate in an internationally acclaimed hockey event.

Bangladesh Hockey Federation and Bangladesh Olympic Association proceeded a day-long program beginning to celebrate the Olympic Day in the capital and allotted regions across the nation. BOA secretary general Syed Shahed Reza led the rally that started from Ramna Tennis Complex and terminated at the Bangabandhu National Stadium after passing through Engineers Institute, Foreign Ministry, Press Club, Baitul Mokkaram and National Sports Council.
The rally took an encouraging turn.

Many ex-national men and women hockey players, officials and hockey enthusiasts alike took part in the Olympic Day Run. Apart from the leader Secretary General of BOA Mr. Shahed Reza, Vice President of BOA Mr. Harun Ur Rashid, Vice President of BHF Mr. Khaja Rahmatullah, Treasurer Mr. Qazi Moinuzzaman Pila and all notable members of the Bangladesh Hockey Federation were also present in the occasion.

In the two-day Olympic proceeding, a tree plantation session was also conducted at the followed by a seminar by Sports and Environment Committee.

After finishing the run, certificates were distributed among the participants. The Bangladesh Hockey Federation held two exhibition hockey matches for men’s (veterans) and women’s at the Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium. BOA and BHF also organized a seminar on the Olympic Day at the Dutch Bangla Auditorium.
Veterans play against each other and the women team battle out a friendly too.

Every year, on 23 June, Olympic Day is celebrated all around the world to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games on 23 June 1894:  hundreds of thousands of people – young and old – participate in sports events, exhibitions, music and educational seminars. The activities on Olympic Day are coordinated by the more than 200 National Olympic Committees (NOCs). The goal is to promote participation in sport regardless of age, gender or athletic ability and to get as many people as possible active.
