Twenty-Five Asian hockey-playing nations are poised to celebrate Olympic Day with various activities ranging from competitions to exhibitions and seminars.

Around the world, National Olympic Associations and their members hold special celebrations to mark the Olympic Day. This is a global celebration to remember the founding of the international Olympic Committee and the modern Olympic Movement by Pierre de Coubertain in 1894. The activities on Olympic Day are coordinated by the respective National Olympic Committees, bringing together people from all walks of life regardless of gender, age and disability to promote unity and harmony.

Of recent Bangladesh Hockey Federation, Pakistan Hockey Federation, Vietnam Hockey Federation, Chinese Tai Pei, Hockey India, Afghanistan and Qatar Hockey Federation have held various activities to observe the Olympic Day across the nations.

Different activities involving children were seen as organizations mark the Olympic Day celebrations.

Similar activities have been planned by the respective hockey governing boards of Singapore, Hong Kong, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Cambodia, Afghanistan, Chinese Taipei, Iran, China, Brunei, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Oman, India, Thailand, Macau, Indonesia, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Japan.

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) truly acknowledges that hockey is “Sports for All’ – a game played by juniors, seniors, veterans and even by athletes of physical disability. It is blind to gender segregation.

With the Rio Summer Olympic Games in Brazil just 42 days away, Olympic Day is a great opportunity to highlight the brilliance of hockey by initiating new hockey programmes and events around the world and reaching out to wider platforms.

Creativity projects and programmes by hockey federations commemorating Olympic Day qualify them to be included into the FIH competition for the most innovative 2016 Olympic Day Hockey Project, with the winner receiving USD 2000.00 – CHF hockey workforce development grant.

This year marks 122nd Anniversary of the Modern Olympic Games. Let’s cherish this moment on a grandeur scale with sporting and educational activities to observe Olympic Day.
