SEA Games 2023 Men’s & Women’s Field Hockey – DAY 4

Fourth day at the SEA Games 2023 in our beloved field hockey

Back

On a cloudy day with the possibility of rain we had another existing day of games, two for the women’s competition and one game for the men’s competition. The teams are already settling in and looking for their places in the standings to try to reach the finals on Tuesday, May 16.

Singapore 1 vs Malaysia 4 (WOMEN)

The first match of the day was between Singapore and Malaysia, who were looking for three points in a match that had the team coached by IBRAHIM Nasihin as the favorite, while Singapore was looking for a surprise and climb up the standings.

The first goal came after 9 minutes of play by SAIUTI Norfaiezah to make the score 1-0. The players in black would not let the game so easy for the players in yellow and would tie the game with a goal by NG Jolene.

The game went uphill for Singapore who had to deal with three goals scored by ZULKIFLI Nuramirah x 2 and MOHD Khairunnisa.

With the 4-1 win the game was won by the yellow girls who played a very good game against an opponent who left everything on the field.

The next match of the leader of the table will be against Thailand tomorrow, May 13, while Singapore will play against the host, Cambodia.

Indonesia 4 vs Cambodia 0 (MEN)

In the men’s competition, the only match of the day was between Indonesia and Cambodia. The home team has 0 points and needed to gain confidence, but this could not be possible as the Indonesian team wanted to climb to the top of the standings and take the first place.

The match was controlled mostly by the players in white, while the players in red tried to block in the best possible way and take advantage of attacks from the flanks. This was not enough as GOBINATHAN Krishnamurthy’s team scored goals from the 22nd minute of play until the end of the match with 4 goals scored by AL ARDH Aulia x2, AL AKBAR Abdullah and PRILIANDRO Revo.

Indonesia took the 3 points to lead the table and looks forward to their match against Malaysia on May 14, while Cambodia will play tomorrow May 13 against Singapore in search of their first 3 points.

Indonesia 0 vs Cambodia 0 (WOMEN)

The last match of the day was between the third and the last team in the current standings. Both teams needed the win, but neither team could stand out.

GOBINATHAN Krishnamurthy’s team tried to break Cambodia’s defense, but although they managed to do it in some opportunities, they could not finish in the goal. With the help of Cambodia’s goalkeeper, PHOR Misan, they were able to control the circle.

Cambodia was more passive and waited for their opponent to make a mistake, but even with that strategy they could not take advantage.

The match ended 0-0 goalless, with each team taking a point that could be fundamental for the final matches in the next few days before the final on May 16.

Cambodia will play Singapore tomorrow, May 13, while Indonesia will play to climb the table against Malaysia on Monday, May 15.
