Team Coorg defeated UTSC 2-0

It was a day to savor for the victor’s Team Coorg at the Sultan Qaboos Complex on 17th & 18th February 2017. As they clinched the top honors at the Starcare Gulf Hockey Fiesta 2017 organized by UTSC associated with OHA. In an exciting finale of the Asian Hockey Federation recognized the event, Team Coorg defeated UTSC 2-0.

Earlier in the semifinals, UTSC defeated OTHL for a 3-0 win while Team Coorg defeated KSA Hockey 3-2.

The star attraction of the tournament were the young players from India. The One Thousand Hockey Legs, a hockey coaching academy by noted hockey journalist K.Arumugam. The boys won the hearts of all the spectators and produced some brilliant hockey.

After losing the semifinals against UTSC, they took a victory lap on the ground and thanked the ground for their wonderful gesture extended to them.

A total 12 teams, including 6 from other GCC, took part in the event, which was officially inaugurated by Captain Talib Al-Wahaibi, Chairman OHA by hitting the ball.

Later, the prize distribution ceremony was graced by OHA Chairman  Captain Talib Al-Wahaibi, Hockey legend S.A.S Naqwi, Dr. Askar Kukkadi- Starcare Hospital M.D, C.E.O Dr. Mohammed Naseem,  Aftab Patel of Al Omaniya Financing Services, Oman Hockey veterans Mohammed Shambeh and Abdul Rahiman Al-Raisi, and many other dignitaries.

The best goal-keeper award went to Deepanshu of OTHL, Best defender award was claimed by Ishfak of KSA Dammam and Nani of Team Coorg was received Top Scorer award, Promising youngster award went to Ilyas of Saham club while Pradhan of Team Coorg was adjusted the man of the tournament award.
