The Asian Champions Trophy Hero Hockey Tournament, Chennai, India 2023 will officially open from 3 to 12 August 2023 and today, the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (KHM) officially announced the line-up of 20 players who will lead Malaysia’s challenge at the tournament.
The announcement of the list was announced by the Chairman of the National Team Management Committee, Dato’ Najmi Razak in a press conference at the KHM Office which was also attended by the Manager of the National Men’s Senior Team, Dato’ Mirnawan Nawawi, the Head Coach of the National Men’s Senior Team, Coach A. Arulselvaraj and Chief Executive Officer of KHM, Mr. Nishel Kumar.
This 7th edition of the tournament will see Malaysia receive opposition from hosts India, Korea, Japan, China and Pakistan and through the announced list of players, also listed are two players who have been called back to play with the national team, Mohd Fitri Saari and Abdul Khaliq Hamirin .
The manager of the National Men’s Senior Squad, Coach A. Arulselvaraj explained that the Asian Champions Trophy Hero Hockey Tournament is the last stage for the team to prepare for the Hangzhou Asian Games and the selection of players covered every aspect including the players’ fitness level and recovery from injury.
“The team has been preparing for the Championship and going through the physical fitness phase and special programs to further strengthen the team.
“We have also enlisted the services of Glenn Turner and Kieran Govers to strengthen the attack pattern and we also focus on the team’s structure when counter-attacking.
“I hope that in this tournament the players will show more than 100% determination and effort and most importantly they believe in themselves.
“The team has done the maximum preparation leading up to this tournament so the players need to believe that they can give their best performance and be able to do it because that high self-confidence will further increase the team’s belief and in each other that they can perform at their best,” he said. he
The National Men’s Senior Squad will depart for Chennai, India on Saturday (July 29, 2023) and will open the tournament on August 3, 2023.
