The Asian Hockey Family Condoles the Sad Demise of Renowned Hockey Umpire Amarjit Singh

Amarjit Singh, a renowned international hockey umpire, passed away on the 21st of February, 2023, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered in the hockey community for years to come. The President of the Asian Hockey Federation, Dato Fumio Ogura, along with the entire Asian hockey family, have extended their condolences to Singh’s family and friends.

Singh dedicated his life to the sport of hockey and was one of the most respected and revered umpires in the game. He started his career as an umpire in the early 1990s and went on to officiate in numerous international matches, including the 2000 Sydney Olympics and the 2002 World Cup in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He umpired in three Olympic Games and four World Cups.

Singh was known for his exceptional skills as an umpire and his ability to maintain the integrity and fairness of the game. He was a stickler for the rules and regulations of the sport, and his decisions were always respected by players and officials alike. His calm and composed demeanor on the field, even in the most high-pressure situations, was one of his most admirable traits.

Singh’s contributions to the sport of hockey go beyond his skills as an umpire. He was also a mentor and coach to many young umpires and played an instrumental role in their development. His dedication to the sport and his willingness to share his knowledge and expertise with others will be greatly missed.

In recognition of his services to hockey, Singh was awarded multiple times. He was also a recipient of the FIH Golden Whistle Award, he umpired 154 international matches.

The passing of Amarjit Singh is a great loss to the hockey community, and his contributions to the sport will never be forgotten. His legacy as a great umpire and mentor will continue to inspire future generations of hockey players and officials. The Asian hockey family and the wider hockey community extend their deepest condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.
