The Mari Petroleum Azadi Hockey Cup was inaugurated with the biggest prizes in the history of Pakistan Domestic Events. On the opening day, WAPDA, National Bank and Pakistan Navy won their matches.
Under the supervision of the Pakistan Hockey Federation, Mari Petroleum Sports Department, three matches were decided on the first day of the Mari Petroleum Azadi Hockey Cup. The first match was played between Pakistan WAPDA and Pakistan Army which was won by Pakistan WAPDA by 2-1 goals after a thrilling contest. Rana Waheed scored both goals for WAPDA while Rao Arsalan scored the only goal for Army. Haroon and Mahmood officiated the match while Takrim was the reserve umpire.
The second match was played between National Bank and Pakistan Air Force. The National Bank won by 2-3 goals after a thrilling contest. The National Bank team managed to score two penalty strokes during the match and proved to be a game-changer. Ali Hassan, Shaun Irshad and Captain Abu Bakar Mahmood scored for National Bank while Rizwan Ali and Mohsin Hassan scored field goals for Air Force on a penalty corner.
The third match was played between the host team Mari Petroleum and Pakistan Navy, which Pakistan Navy won 2-1. Navy’s Akbar Ali and Kamran Asif scored while Mari Petroleum’s Ehtesham scored on a penalty corner. SIR Developers and King Khan Hockey Dubai also announced two hockey players for each man of the match. In this match, Pakistan Navy player Hammad was awarded Man of the Match
Mari Petroleum has announced the biggest prizes in the history of Pakistan Hockey Domestic Events. Each player of the final winning team will be given 100cc motorcycle and each player of the runner-up team will be given 70cc motorcycle. Muhammad Shafiq Bhatti and Muhammad Yaseen have been posted. Umpires Manager Rashid Mahmood Butt and Assistant Umpires Manager Dilawar Bhatti are performing their duties.
Eight top teams of the Pakistan Hockey Federation are participating in Mari Petroleum Azadi Hockey Cup including WAPDA, National Bank, Sui Southern Gas, Navy, Mari Petroleum, Air Force Punjab and Army. The event will be played from August 8 to 15 with the President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi as the special guest.

Col. Asif Naz Khokhar, Former Secretary Pakistan Hockey Federation Olympian Rana Mujahid Ali Khan, Secretary KHA Haider Hussain, Leading Sports Anchor Yahya Hussaini, Senior Sports Journalist Zulfiqar Baig, Staff Officer President PhD. Apart from F Tariq Mir, Staff Officer President PHF Zahoor Janjua, International Hockey Player and Coach Abu Dharr Amrao, National Hockey Player Shuja Iqbal Raja, Shahid Iqbal Raja, a large number of hockey fans were present.

Three matches will be played on Monday, August 9. Sui Southern Gas vs Punjab at 4:00 pm, Mari Petroleum vs Pakistan Army at 6:00 pm, and Pakistan Navy vs Pakistan Wapda at 8:00 pm Pakistan Time.
