Pan Am Games 2019: Matches August 1 & 3

The preliminary rounds are about to come to an end in the Lima Pan American Games 2019. The winner of each competition will qualify for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

 Women

In today’s matches, Canada’s 5-0 win against Uruguay secured them second place in Pool B, while Uruguay finished third. Canada will clash with Chile in the next stage. The USA finished on top of Pool B after an 8-0 win over hosts Peru in the teams’ first-ever matchup. USA will cross over with Cuba in Pool A, while Peru, in fourth place, will cross over with top-seeded Argentina.

Meanwhile, in Pool A, Argentina affirmed their spot at the top with a convincing 13-1 victory over Cuba. Chile defeated Mexico 2-0 in a mid-challenged game, earning third and fourth place respectively. With these results, Mexico will face Canada in the classifications matches.

Men

In the men’s last matches, Peru scored their first two goals of the tournament despite losing out to Mexico by 8-2. Chile scored four goals against Cuba, earning a Top 2 placing in Pool A.  Six different scorers got on the board as Argentina picked up their second win of pool-play after eliminating Trinidad and Tobago 6-0, finishing 1st place.

Meanwhile, Canadians toppled USA 4-0 in a physical and paced game. With the win, Canada look on pace to top Pool B with just winless Peru left to play in pool-play. The USA will battle Mexico for the second spot in the pool.

On a side note, sadly the Pan American Hockey Federation informed that no live stream coverage would be available for field hockey at the Pan American Games.
