WAPDA won the first Ustad Aslam Roda Ramadan Hockey Tournament

Mari Petroleum was defeated in the final, Shehbaz Sr., MNA Chaudhry Khalid Waraich was the special guest

WAPDA won the first All-Pakistan Ustad Aslam Roda Ramadan Floodlights Hockey Tournament by defeating Mari Petroleum. Under the supervision of Pakistan Hockey Federation and managed by District Toba Tek Singh Hockey Association, at the International Hockey Stadium in Gojra. In the final of the organized tournament, WAPDA outclassed Mari Petroleum and achieved a great victory by 3-0.

On the occasion of the final, tournament director Olympian Rihan Butt, Irfan Sr., Ustad Iqbal Bali, Babar Abdullah, Khawar Javed, Chief Coordinator Liaquat Bhatta, Olympian Tariq Imran, Umpire Manager Zulfiqar Hussain, Munawar Hussain, Asghar Awan, Maqsood Ahmed and others were also present. More than 10,000 spectators watched the final telecast live on PTV Sports and cheered both the teams for a great game.

The game started at a fast pace but both teams were cautious in attacking each other’s goal post, the first half of the final was scoreless. As a result, WAPDA’s Hanan Shahid scored a brilliant field goal in the 25th minute to give his team the lead, which was doubled by Rana Waheed in the 40th minute of the third quarter by scoring a goal on a penalty corner. Hanan Shahid scored the third goal in the 57th minute to make it 3-0 which remained until the end of the game. WAPDA got four and Mari Petroleum got three penalty corners. Irfan Tahir and Hafiz Atif supervised this match. While Asad Abbas was the reserve umpire. The chief guests of the final were the winning captain of the World Cup 1994 team, Olympian Shehbaz Sr. and MNA Chaudhry Khalid Waraich who distributed the prizes.
